About Matthew Wilson
Don’t be surprised if Dr. Matthew Wilson wishes you ‘bonum salutem’ at the conclusion of your visit to Western Neuro. The phrase means, ‘good health’ in Latin and Dr. Wilson knows it well since his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan is in Latin Language and Literature. He is one of a very small number of people in the country to study the ancient language. Dr. Wilson did not immediately pursue a career in medicine after college. He first became a soccer coach and physics teacher in a Chicago area high school. He had grown up in the suburbs of the city and was a star basketball and soccer player at New Trier High School. He earned his medical degree at Tulane University College of Medicine and did his internship and residency at the University of Tennessee and the Semmes-Murphey Clinic, in Memphis, Tennessee. Since joining Western Neuro in 2005, Dr. Wilson has focused on back pain, neck pain, degenerative spine disorders, spine fractures, minimally invasive spine surgery, peripheral nerve surgery and brain tumors. Outside of medicine, Dr. Wilson loves to watch professional and college sports and rarely misses a chance to cheer on his Chicago Cubs and Michigan Wolverines.

He was very pleasant and spent all the time we needed to handle the issues and answer all of our questions. I really appreciate the patience he had and in answering our questions. He made sure that I was comfortable before we left the office. The Dr. even called us on our way home, probably 15 minutes after we left, with an issue he discovered after we left.

Dr. Wilson is the best, he gives a 110% of his attention, is never in any hurry, explains and is very thorough with his answers, so that I understand all. His Secretary Patti is also very courteous, helpful, and very attentive as well. Great office support.

There was a good reason for the long wait in the examining room and Patty came in to explain. There was a meeting and it took longer than planned. We understood completely! Dr. Wilson was worth the wait anyway! This was my first visit as a patient but had there many times before when my husband was the patient.
