About Kathryn Bates
Kathryn Bates, DO is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Echocardiography, and Nuclear Cardiology. Dr. Bates is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography.
After completing her postgraduate education, Dr. Bates practiced cardiology in an academic setting for three years. She was a staff cardiologist for Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Arizona, and actively involved in medical research. Her work in evaluating the effects of statins in congestive heart failure has been published in major medical journals. In 2003, Dr. Bates returned to the University of Arizona for a one-year Fellowship in Cardiac Imaging, and has been in private practice since then.
Dr. Bates is dedicated to bringing evidence-based medicine, with patient driven care, to pursue the best outcomes for her patients.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Bates enjoys mountain biking and road cycling, music (mandolin and guitar), traveling, cooking, and reading. She also has interest in health, fitness, and nutrition.

I arrived 30+ minutes early for my appointment. I was taken to an examination room very shortly after that, was immediately questioned, vitals taken, and an EKG administered by a medical assistant, after which Dr. Bates entered without delay. Dr. Bates listened to my heart and spoke with me for several minutes, during which time I was able to respond and contribute my own thoughts to the conversation. After our conversation and reviewing my record, Dr. Bates suggested a follow-up echo cardiogram and that I would be contacted to set up an appointment. When I exited the office, several minutes remained BEFORE my original appointment time was to even begin. I'd say that's excellent service!

Dr Bates is one of the best doctors I have been lucky enough to find to follow my cardio care. She spends time truly listening to your concerns and explains everything in detail while keeping eye contact the entire time. Dr. Bates is tops, numero uno, 100% the best! She literally saved my life 13 years ago. At the age of 55 I was seen by my PCP for my annual physical. He noted that I had a blockage in my RCA. Have been going to Pima Heart 10 years and they never did that once! I was surprised to learn that was standard protocol!

This was my 1st appt with Dr. Bates and so it was a "getting to know you" visit so some of the above questions are not yet applicable. I am a very complicated frail elder, and digestion of my Hx even for the most brilliant doc takes more time than the usual 10-15 min. office visit. ECHO and past records will be forth coming. My confidence level at this point is primarily based on the professionalism displayed by the whole department from registration to checkout. I found Dr. Bates to also be professional. It was the first time for years that a cardiologist has put a stethoscope on me! I've mentioned to my PCP who always uses a stethoscope why this is not done at Pima Heart?

Initial appointment was made 6 months prior. Due a need to re-evaluate my blood pressue medication I tried unsuccessfully to get an appointment a month earlier than my previously schedule appointment. Messages were passed back and forth to drop one of two meds; changes were ultimately made to the other med during this visit.
