The Evaluation, Treatment and Management of Person’s with Ataxia

Course Description

Introduces ataxia as an impairment present across multiple disease courses, and provides an overview of examination, evaluation, and intervention. Engages in critical evaluative tools best evidence-based practice in the literature through lectures, discussion, lab, and case studies. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss problems using a variety of evaluative and interventional applications.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to choose and describe appropriate:

  • Demonstrate comprehensive screening with reliable tests and measures of ataxia, dysmetria and intention tremors
  • Teach back specific learning techniques and intervention strategies associated with and without cerebellar trial and error learning
  • Identify and differentiate involvement of ataxia as a complex impairment present across different disease courses

Instructor:

Andrew Selby PT, DPT
graduated with his DPT from Wayne State University in 2021 and graduated from RIM Neuro-Residency in 2023. He has 2 years’ experience in all IPR settings, OP, Acute and Children’s hospital. Andrew has presented course related literature for his case study at APTA-MI fall conference 2022 as well as Combined Sections Meeting 2023. He is currently awaiting publication in peer reviewed journal.
