Rehabilitation of the Running Athletes

Course Description

This course will cover examination, prevention, and treatment of some of the most common injuries. Running gait retraining and exercises specific to the running athlete will be discussed and practiced in a lab format.

Level of Course: 
Intermediate

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to choose and describe appropriate:

  • Recognize the most common running related injuries
  • Perform examination techniques specific to the runner
  • Perform a running gait analysis and identify the most common mechanical faults leading to injuries
  • Prescribe exercises specific to the runner
  • Develop a performance-based program for the running athlete
  • Prescribe an injury prevention program for the running athlete

Instructor:

Marie-Eve Pepin, PT, OMPT, MSPT, DPT
is a 1998 graduate of McGill University with a BS in Physical Therapy, a Master from Oakland University, a Doctorate from the MGH Institute and a specialization in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy from Oakland University. She is also a core faculty in the Wayne State University Physical Therapy Program. She has been teaching orthopedic content and in particular therapeutic exercise interventions for over 15 years. She has been working as an orthopedic physical therapist for 22 years.
