Adaptive Yoga for Treatment & Wellness Facilitation

Course DescriptionClinical based yoga course that will instruct participants on the benefits of using yoga in the clinic and instruct participants on how to incorporate and adapt yoga poses for individual patient care and group sessions based on each individual’s capabilities.

Level of Course:  Intermediate

Course Objectives:  Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to

  • Define yoga and describe its practical implications in healthcare and wellness programs.
  • Describe the benefits of maintaining a sustainable yoga practice and be able to identify barriers and contraindications.
  • Learn about Yoga Therapy as a healthcare career and the difference between Yoga Therapy and other forms of yoga
  • Explore different yoga poses, identify their benefits and learn to adapt these poses to accommodate most clientele.
  • Learn to create an adaptive yoga class that meets the needs of each practitioner in the group
  • Learn how to document yoga interventions for individual and group session

Instructor: Rebecca Reibel, PTA, RYT has experience working with individuals with spinal cord injury, orthopedic injury, deconditioning and neurological injury for over 20 years as a Physical Therapist Assistant in inpatient rehabilitation. She has over 20 years of experience as a yoga practitioner and earned her yoga teacher certification in 2013. Rebecca received a grant in 2018 from the RIM Foundation and created an adaptive yoga and tai chi program for people with injury and disability.  This program is currently enjoying its 3rd year of proving free yoga and tai chi classes to the community.

Intended Audience:  PT/PTA, OT/OTA, Recreational Therapists, Yoga Instructors and other Healthcare Professionals

Course Hours: Registration: 8 am; Course: 8:30 am -4 pm  (***plus one additional hour attending a virtual adaptive yoga or yoga therapy class.)
