Renee's Story
Dec 1, 2023“I have absolutely no pain today whatsoever and I’m back doing all my activities.” - Renee Franklin
Renee Franklin is an avid bicyclist, runner and walker. She plays tennis and picked up kick boxing about three years ago. When her hip started hurting, she put it in the back of her mind, hoping the pain would go away.
“I was in denial. I was so physically fit, but the pain just kept getting worse. I couldn’t sleep at night, I couldn’t run anymore, when I got on my bike, I had to lay it on the ground because I couldn’t lift my leg up and over, I couldn’t even walk my dog.”
Renee made an appointment with the DMC Orthopedic and Sports Medicine team, and learned she had significant damage and deterioration in her right hip. They recommended hip replacement surgery. Renee knew that was the only thing that was going to get her back on her feet.
She had surgery in May of 2021 and shortly after, started outpatient therapy at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s Canton Center.
“I’ve worked at RIM for more than 30 years, I’ve seen their remarkable outcomes. I know that our therapists have longevity and are just so experienced. I felt very comfortable doing my therapy at the place where I work.”
Going to physical therapy three times a week – Renee would work out on the treadmill, bike, do isolation exercises, leg presses and stretch. She quickly went from using a cane to nothing at all.
“I have absolutely no pain today whatsoever and I’m back doing all my activities. It’s like nothing ever happened. I really credit RIM for my great recovery. I don’t think I would have gotten better so quickly and as pain free without their expertise.” Now when Renee meets with patients, she gives them a firsthand recommendation as to the great recoveries that happen at RIM.
