EMG
Electromyography (EMG) services are provided for adult patients with neuromuscular diseases and musculoskeletal injuries at the outpatient locations listed below. The EMG studies are provided by board certified physiatrists.

Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE)
This is a 2 to 4-hour evaluation to determine one's maximal physical capabilities and ability to return to the workplace. This is just one of the services provided in our Return-to-Work Program.

Hand Therapy
Hand therapy is offered at several outpatient sites by occupational or physical therapists with advanced training in the rehabilitation of problems of the hand. Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) are available for those who require the highest level of skill. Conditions treated can include rehabilitation after surgery, pain management, nerve injuries (including carpal tunnel syndrome), tendonitis, arthritis or any condition affecting the bones, joints, tendons or nerves. Incontinence Therapy
Incontinence as defined by the International Continence Society is any loss of urine that is socially or hygienically unacceptable. More than 20 million persons in the U.S. are affected with some degree of involuntary urine loss. Women are affected twice as frequently as men. Bowel incontinence can range from involuntary loss of gas to loss of stool. Exercises to strengthen muscles in the pelvic floor are very effective to regain bladder and bowel control. Specially trained physical therapists will evaluate and prescribe a unique treatment program for each patient. Physician prescription required for outpatient therapy

Lymphedema Treatment
Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part, usually an arm or leg, caused by the accumulation of lymph fluid. It is a chronic, progressive condition that requires specific management for a lifetime. The goal of this program is to provide the most effective and comprehensive treatment for lymphedema. Comprehensive Lymphedema Therapy includes specialized massage techniques (manual lymph drainage), compression therapy, skin care and exercise. All the physical and occupational therapists in our program have advanced training in lymphedema management. Physician prescription required for outpatient therapy.

Manual Therapy
Manual therapy includes a range of techniques used to mobilize or manipulate joints, muscles and other soft tissue to help restore normal movement, reduce pain and improve function. Manual therapy techniques offered at RIM include muscle energy, myofascial release, craniosacral, McKenzie, strain/counterstrain, Norwegian, Maitland, as well as others. Many staff have extensive advanced training, including Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) certification. Manual therapy is provided at all RIM outpatient sites, but specific techniques offered may vary from site to site. Physician prescription required for outpatient therapy.

Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle Energy Technique is a gentle form of mobilization used to restore motion to restricted joints. It is often used to treat pain in the spine and sacroiliac region. Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a form of mobilization which focuses on the soft tissue known as fascia. Fascia is a system of connective tissue that surrounds, protects and separates all structures of the body. The goal is to gently remove fascia restrictions in order to restore balance to the body and improve efficient function.
