Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan's (RIM) orthopedic rehabilitation program, specializes in providing physical rehabilitation for individuals whose cases range from routine to complex. RIM is also the only facility of it's kind to provide comprehensive treatment models for patients in all stages of life from young adults, to the elderly.
RIM's orthopedic rehabilitation program focuses on helping patients regain their strength, mobility and endurance so they can return to an active an independent lifestyle as quickly as possible.
As one of the nation's largest rehabilitation hospitals, RIM treats a large volume of orthopedic patients each year, meaning our staff is knowledgeable and experienced in treating a wide variety of orthopedic conditions. Patients admitted to our inpatient orthopedic unit include those who experience fractures, total joint (knee and hip) replacements, joint replacement revisions, spinal surgery and external fixation. RIM's staff is especially adept at treating patients with complicated orthopedic conditions, such as major multiple trauma and fractures of the upper and lower extremities.
Unlike other rehabilitation facilities that mix various patients together, RIM's orthopedic patients are admitted to an inpatient unit devoted to the treatment of orthopedic conditions. Each patient's care is coordinated by a rehab professional with specialty training and expertise in treating the unique needs of this patient population. This efficient approach to treatment results in shorter hospital stays and fewer complications during and after hospitalization.
RIM also operates numerous outpatient therapy sites throughout southeast Michigan to assist patients with their recovery once they are released from the hospital or for those orthopedic patients who do not require an inpatient program.
Another unique aspect of RIM's orthopedic program, is our affiliation with the Detroit medical Center and Wayne State University. Because RIM is part of a large academic health care system, patients have access to a variety of medical specialists and resources. Each patient's care is managed from the initial acute stage, through the rehabilitation stage, to the outpatient setting where RIM's follow-up services continue to assist the patient in maintaining a healthy and independent lifestyle.
