Lymphedema

Lymphedema is the swelling of a body part, usually an arm or leg, caused by the accumulation of lymph fluid.  It interferes with normal movement and is sometimes painful. Lymphedema is a chronic, progressive condition that requires specific management for a lifetime.

Causes of lymphedema include:
  • Surgery
  • Radiation treatment
  • Birth defect
  • Trauma
Comprehensive Lymphedema Therapy (CLT)
DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) has assembled one of the largest teams of physical and occupational therapists in southeast Michigan with advanced training in lymphedema management.

RIM provides the most effective treatment available for lymphedema —Comprehensive Lymphedema Therapy (CLT) — which includes:
  • Specialized Massage Techniques (manual lymph drainage)
  • Compression Therapy
  • Skin Care
  • Exercise
If left untreated, lymphedema can lead to serious medical consequences. Ask your physician if you would benefit from RIM’s Lymphedema Treatment Program.
