This week, DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) became the 8th rehabilitation hospital in the U.S. to receive Ekso, a wearable, robotic exoskeleton that powers people with lower extremity paralysis or weakness to get them standing up and walking.

Detroit, MI—May 17, 2013—DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan (RIM) has achieved Magnet® recognition as a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork, and superiority in patient care. Magnet recognition is determined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, which ensures that rigorous standards for nursing excellence are met. With this credential, RIM joins the Magnet community—a select group of 395 healthcare organizations out of nearly 6,000 U.S. healthcare organizations. RIM is one of only three rehab hospitals in the U.S. to receive Magnet® designation and joins the DMC’s Detroit Receiving Hospital and Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in receiving this honor.

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s Wheelchair Basketball Team Wins National Championship

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s (RIM) wheelchair basketball team, the Detroit Diehards, are the 2013 National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s (NWBA) Division III National Champions. The team defeated Tampa Bay in the finals Sunday, April 21 during the NWBA tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. This was the team’s fourth appearance in the tournament and their first national championship win.
